A Little Encouragement For The Year Ahead

As a new school year begins, it’s easy to question whether you’re making the right choices for your child. At Bloom Scholars, we want to remind you: you’ve made the best decision you could. There is no perfect homeschool journey—just one where you learn, adjust, and watch your child bloom.

As the academic year begins, it’s easy for parents to start questioning the decisions they’ve made for the year ahead.

Is homeschooling the right choice? Should we have sent them to public school this year? Is art the right after-school program? Is it too challenging? Do they need more sports? Less? Should I join the co-op? Or should I reduce our commitments?

The questions can feel endless.

We see it every day in the homeschool forums and communities we belong to. Parents are constantly wondering whether they are doing enough, choosing the right things, or making the best decisions for their children.

So, as this school year begins, there is something we want you to hear:

You have made the best decision you could for your child and your family.

And that decision will look different for everyone.

The fact that your child belongs to the Bloom Scholars family tells us something important about you. It tells us that you are deeply committed to your child’s academic flourishing. It tells us that you are paying attention—not only to what they need academically, but to who they are as a whole person, what interests them, where their strengths lie, and what allows them to thrive.

So, rest easy in your decisions.

Let time run. And if something isn’t working, adjust.

There is no perfect schedule, perfect curriculum, perfect extracurricular, or perfect homeschool day. Learning—and parenting—is an ongoing process of paying attention, trying things, making adjustments, and learning alongside our children.

And as the academic year gets underway, you may find yourself running from drop-offs to pick-ups, setting up Zoom links and gathering materials for online courses, waiting around for the next sports practice, or getting covered (yet again!) in paint, glue, or dough.

When you can, allow yourself to be present for it.

Take a breath.

Look around.

Notice the joy of your child learning something new, discovering an interest, making a friend, asking a question, mastering something they once struggled with, or simply experiencing the world.

Because you get to watch it all from the front row.

You get to watch them bloom.

And remember: you are not alone.

The Bloom Scholars team and community are here to support you, encourage you, and offer feedback when something isn’t working. We are all here for the same reason: because we love our children deeply, we are committed to finding the best fit for them academically and personally, and we want to support them as they grow into all that they are meant to be.
